Authorities intercept package laced with ricin on its way to the White House on September 19, 2020
Donald Trump was the target of a possible assassination attempt by mail on Saturday, according to a New York Times report.
Authorities intercepted a letter addressed to Donald Trump that reportedly carried ricin, a lethal substance that contains a toxin for which there is no treatment or antidote.
The letter was caught at on offsite processing facility just before being forward directly to the White House mailroom.
The FBI released a statement confirming the disturbing news. “The F.B.I. and our U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Postal Inspection Service partners are investigating a suspicious letter received at a U.S. government mail facility,” the FBI said. “At this time, there is no known threat to public safety.”
Other letters containing the toxic substance were also intercepted on their way to federal agencies in Texas.
Officials also revealed that the letters are believed to have been sent from Canada and a female suspect has already been identified.
This isn’t the first time President Trump has been the target of a similar attempt. According to Breitbart, another attempt to mail ricin to the president was unsuccessfully made in 2018.
The deadly package’s interception comes only one day after it was announced that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died from complications of pancreatic cancer. Leftists erupted into threats of violence soon after the announcement, declaring an intention to escalate riots if Donald Trump attempts to name a successor to Ginsburg.
