How many of us realize how DANGEROUS it is to erroneously interpret the meaning of God’s Word. When this verse is presented ALONE, it seems it is saying that for anyone who sins wilfully (at any time . . . even ONE time), that there remains no more sacrifice for sins (i.e., there is no hope of being forgiven). Clearly that interpretation is contrary to the verses before it and numerous other Scriptures re forgiveness.

We must always take into consideration EVERY word that is contained in Scripture as well. Note particularly: “that have RECEIVED THE KNOWLEDGE of the truth”. Therefore, this scripture is not speaking to born-again Believers, as we have not ONLY received the knowledge of what Christ has done for us, but WE HAVE RECEIVED CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR! That’s a BIG DIFFERENCE!

Therefore, this Scripture is a warning to those (Jews – as this entire Chapter speaks to Judaism’s required repeated sacrifices that can never put again sin (Hebrews 10:1-1. It also applies to those Gentiles who have heard the TRUTH but REJECTED THE TRUTH, choosing not to accept Christ’s one-time, perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for sin.

BOTTOM LINE: For anyone who WILFULLY REJECTS CHRIST after having received the KNOWLEDGE of what He has done and freely offers to them, that THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM JUDGMENT should one die in this state. All “falling away” in Hebrews is apostasy from Christ.
