Dow Corning is another breast implant company embroiled in a legal dispute over implant-related side effects. In 1995, a large number of plaintiffs alleged that the company had been hiding information regarding the risks associated with the silicone used in its breast implants.
The plaintiffs suffered from a variety of medical ailments, including implant rupture, breast tissue stiffening, and incapacitating symptoms that mimicked autoimmune diseases like lupus. Multiple breast implant rupture lawsuits have been filed by the victims against Dow Corning.
In response to the lawsuits filed by the afflicted women, Dow Corning created a $3.2 billion breast implant settlement fund.
