So I'll start things off with a bold statement, though one that has been stated before and with greater skill....

The Bill of Rights was a mistake. It unnecessarily exposed powers that were already denied the federal government- by their exclusion within the body of the Constitution - to the potential for debate. Once debate was engaged, the concept was cemeted that only through the Bill of Rights are these powers limited, thereby granting these powers to the federal government if only an amendmemt could be overcome.

If the Bill of Rights did not exist, the debate would not exist and our rights would no longer be at risk.
