So, like many of you, I'm switching out my social media. To be straight up: I have not been in any way serious about social media in well over a decade...I left Facebook long ago when I got tired of the jihad-flamewars that always sprung up over the stupidest things. (I once had a guy message me on Facebook threatening to beat me up because he contradicted his claim that Chrome...that's right, the WORLD'S MOST POPULAR BROWSER...was malware.) Then the privacy issues got worse (remember...10 years ago, Facebook still looked as though they were mostly trying to be straight up about their users' privacy), and then the censorship got more and more blatant...so I just never went back. I was never on Twitter, it was still only 140 characters back then and I just never got into it. The only social media I used was Instagram, mostly because I am a visual person and I enjoy posting pictures, plus it's a lot more difficult to make posted pictures political...although with meme generators, even than became more common.
But now, with the big social media companies showing their true colors, I refuse to be part of it any longer. I'm trying this, I'm trying Parler, and I'm trying MeWe. We'll see if any of them stick at all. Who knows? I might just go back to a quiet, calm, nondigital life. Heck, our grandparents did it, and they did OK, you know? #socialmedia #maketheswitch
