“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
With the appearing of its beautiful blossoms annually, a treasured Christmas cactus in my home has faithfully heralded the coming of the season of celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for as long as I can remember. This beloved houseplant brings to my mind fond memories of my dear mom, the late Willie Mae Ray, who gave it to me as a precious gift many years ago.
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions (mercies) fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
The regularity of its blossoming around Christmas time each year also reminds me of the great faithfulness of Christ to accomplish His earthly mission to redeem humanity from sin and to give everyone the opportunity to receive the greatest gift imaginable, everlasting life! Because of my deep love for Jesus and my gratitude for what she has done to secure my salvation, help me Lord to be ever faithful to my calling to proclaim to the world my Savior’s love and His saving grace.
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)
