While many were looking to see Elden Ring Runes Shadow from the Erdtree DLC at Summer Game Fest, its absence actually makes perfect sense.

Early on in the Summer Game Fest presentation, host Geoff Keighley teased a significant, unexpected game because of the grand finale. Many anticipated it might be Elden Ring's Shadow from the Erdtree DLC, while some even held out except for Grand Theft Auto 6 or Hollow Knight: Silksong. Ultimately, it had been a trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It was a good finale for that showcase, but one high was so much hype, most are likely disappointed.

Of GTA 6, Hollow Knight, and Elden Ring, the very first two are often explained away. It wouldn't seem sensible for Hollow Knight: Silksong to look after its recent delay, and GTA 6 is years out still. Elden Ring, though, might seem uncertain. At this point, it's prone to release in the coming year, however, many would have loved just a little teaser. Obviously, that didn't happen and it is not hard to assume why.

Elden Ring's DLC Has a Lot within the Works

First and foremost, FromSoftware hasn't really shown anything concerning the DLC so far. It was announced without much fanfare, using the company simply confirming it had been in the works and releasing a teaser image. This has resulted in a lot of speculation concerning the Elden Ring DLC, for example, Miquella's role, what's happening towards the Erdtree, and it is specific placement within the timeline, consider not much has been confirmed before, there's very little reason to begin full-blown marketing before the DLC is further along in development. It could have started here, however, it didn't. That's okay and fitting to FromSoftware's typical approach. As many without doubt recall, several gaming presentations and showcases passed before a great deal was revealed about Elden Ring, as well as then it only scratched the top pre-release.

Furthermore, a current rumor shows that the Elden Ring's Shadow from the Erdtree expansion may be the size of two DLCs, which makes it absolutely massive because of the scale of FromSoft's typical DLC. Assuming this is correct, fans can get a ton of content for that game, but which makes it obvious why there's still so little known. Elden Ring's grand scale demands an identical DLC, so something short and straightforward wouldn't work. As such, its absence is much more than understandable between that which was first revealed and also the rumored size.
