Trekking, Travel and Adventures in Nepal

The Mardi Himal Trek, which lasts 7 days (with options for 4- or 5-day routes), is a relatively new addition to the trekking scene, having opened in 2012. Despite its newcomer status, it has quickly gained popularity. This trek leads into the Annapurna Conservation Area, starting in Pokhara at 820 meters and ascending to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters.

Although lesser known compared to longer treks such as the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Mardi Himal Trek offers breathtaking views of Mardi Himal (5,587 meters) as well as other famous peaks such as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchre and Gangapurna Himal. This trek covers a variety of routes depending on the duration chosen, including Aastam, Kande, Australian Camp, Forest Camp, Low Camp, High Camp, Badal Danda, Kalimati, Pothana, Lwang and Lumre.

The special feature of this trek is the rapid ascent to over 4,000 meters in just four days, which makes it very remarkable. The increasing number of teahouses along the route makes the trek easier for people of different fitness levels and provides easily accessible options for meals and accommodation. In addition, the trail predominantly passes through lush oak and rhododendron forests and offers the opportunity to spot wildlife such as musk deer, langurs, various species of monkeys, danfe (Lophophorus) and porcupines.

This hike is a hidden gem where hikers can enjoy majestic mountain views, spot wildlife in verdant forests and cross rivers and mountain ridges in a single journey. Following the winding trails through the forests and emerging from the forests, one is rewarded with captivating views of the Mardi Himal, Annapurna South and Machhapuchre from the Badal Danda viewpoint.
