- WHAT IS OUR FATHER’S NAME?
In the Book of Proverbs, we read this provoking question:
“Who has gone up to Heaven, and come down? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in His garments? Who has made all the ends of the earth to rise? What is His name, and what is His Son's name? Surely you know.” Proverbs 30:4 This proverb demonstrates the creative power of YAH-WEH the Father and YAH-SHUA the Son. (Gen 1:26, Eccl 12:1, Ps 2:7, Acts 13:33, Ps 89:26).
Yes, surely all Born Again Believers know their Father’s Name! They pray often enough, “Hallowed be Thy Name.” They sing, “Glorify Thy Name in all the earth,” and often claim they are willing to live or die for His NAME. But what that Name is, they are not quite sure.
I once asked a Pastor, “What is your Heavenly Father’s Name?” He thought for some time, and shook his head . . . and then suddenly he said, “Oh, you mean Jehovah?” He was not quite sure if that was an appropriate answer.
Some will say, “Well, God and the Son, between them, have more than 300 titles or names. So why should we emphasize one particular name?”
Another pastor I asked, said, “Why break your head about God’s Name? The Bible tells you clearly in Psalm 83:18, ‘That they may know that Thou alone, whose name is the LORD, art the Most High over all the earth.’ And it is also in Isaiah 42:8: ‘I am the LORD, that is My Name’.”
I asked him, “Why is LORD in these verses spelt with CAPITAL letters?” He replied, “It’s because the Name LORD is very important.”
“Well, His Name is indeed very important,” I replied, “but LORD is not His Name. The reason why LORD is spelt with capitals in most English Bibles, is because it is to indicate that ‘LORD’ is a substitution for the actual, original Hebrew Name.” (You can check that out in the Forward of most English Bibles.)
Another verse of the Bible (AV) says, “Holy and Reverend is His Name.” And yet I have never heard anyone addressing the Father as “Reverend.” Have you? Yet another verse says His Name is “Jealous.” (Exodus 34:14). But these are descriptive titles - not His actual Name.
