George Washington not only believed that a free people should be armed and disciplined (trained and practiced), he had the the results of an unarmed people's futile resistance against tyranny.
He also believed that we should have sufficient (effective against whatever enemy, even their own government) arms and ammunition to be EFFECTIVE.
This means comparable to the arms the free people may face. That coincides with the language from the Second Amendment, ... shall not be infringed.
Our government, under the guise of "public safety" has infringed upon that right until it's almost unrecognizable.
The Constitution and the Bill of Rights is commonly misunderstood as rights granted by the government. On the contrary, it lays out a list of, but not limited to, rights granted by our Creator. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights was intended as a guarantee of those rights and specifically state that the government cannot infringe upon them.
