What do you think the most common mistake authors make is?

The beginning of a book/story/movie should start with an inciting incident, an event that catches your attention and introduces the story. How long will you give a book, TV series, etc, until you put it down or stop watching if it starts off slowly?

The world around us is full of interesting characters. At times, I base characters off people I know, or base a character off what someone I know would be like if they didn't have strong moral values. Sometimes, traits that we see in people we know can be exaggerated to make incredible comic characters or incredible heroes or villains. I am always looking for new ideas for characters, and one of the places that we can find interesting characters is just by looking at the people around us.

What do you think makes a character interesting to you? Do you like characters you can relate to, characters with interesting powers, characters with funny quirks, or what?

Some heroes willingly accept their call, while others are reluctant heroes. In life, we often have challenges we face willingly and challenges we don't. Do you prefer reading/writing about willing or reluctant heroes?

What makes you want to read a book? Do you judge a book off its cover, read whatever is popular, or what? I've been playing around with a book trailer, not that I'll ever spend any money advertising, and am curious what people look for to get them to read a book.
