"You must constantly teach your children the truth about God, judgment, grace, forgiveness, and salvation. This is to be done when you sit down, as you are walking, when you lie down, and when you get up. In other words, there is no time when teaching your children biblical truth is inappropriate. You don't need to overwhelm them with complex discussions, but you don't want to be too simplistic, either. You don't want to shortchange your children's understanding of the gospel and what it means to be saved from their sins. People often ask me, 'At what age should I do this with my children?' Clearly, children are not able to come to salvation until they're old enough to understand the gospel message and embrace it with genuine faith. But start as soon as they are mature enough to understand sin, repentance, faith, and punishment. They need to be old enough to understand the seriousness of their sin and the nature of God's holy standard. The age for this will vary from child to child." —John MacArthur
