If any of you like to read, homeschool your children, or have children in our life you would like to give books to, I just opened my new page to introduce you to my online bookstore, Barb's People Builders. I'm passionate about getting the best books into the hands of children.

I started as a homeschool vendor in 1993, traveling from convention to convention selling children's books and resources for homeschoolers. We also put on bookfairs in person at many Christian schools in California. (The picture for this post shows a couple of display racks at a local bookfair we worked.) Later on my husband's hips wore out and we couldn't continue to do the physical work involved in exhibiting. So I took the business online.

I now sell at Biblio, Homeschool Used Book, and on Instagram. My inventory has thousands of books and educational resources, texts, and workbooks in stock at prices competitive with Amazon's. None of them are common core curriculum items. Many of the children's books and educational resources are now out of print. Most of them aren't listed yet.

I'm picky about the books I sell. They are consistent with Christian and traditional moral values. If in doubt about what a book contains or it's viewpoint, you can always ask me. I have the books stored at home and I can look. I have added no new books to stock that were published after 2015, and nothing is Common Core or politically correct. Every book was personally selected from a much larger publisher catalog of titles.

I stock only books Christian classroom school teachers and Christian home educators can use with a clear conscience. In many cases I have visited the publishers or bought directly from the authors. Many secular teachers and home educators have also purchased books I've sourced from secular publishers.

Whenever possible I have looked at the books at trade shows or conventions before buying them. I have not rejected science books that assume evolution is true if they are excellent in every other respect. Parents know their children will meet these views in the world and they use these books as an introduction for explaining their own views.

I specialize in children's books, especially nonfiction. I love books about nature, hands-on activity books, educational coloring books, and biographies. I sell books that teach children true American History. I also carry books for adults that focus on history, biography, and practical skills like cooking, gardening, quilting, and teaching. Many of these are used.

The workbooks and educational resources I sell new are from education publishers like Evan-Moor, Teacher Created Resources, Educational Impressions, Barron's Education, Chicago Review Press, Children's Press, Creative Teaching Press, Dandy Lion (now Prufrock Press), Edupress (now out of print), Educator's Publishing Service, Frank Schaffer, Garlic Press, Golden Education Center, Good Apple, Goodyear Books, Steck_Vaughn, Harcourt School Supply, Incentive Publications, Key Curriculum Press, Milliken Press, Saxon Math, Scholastic, Twin Sisters Music and Education CDs, Williamson Press, and and a few other smaller presses.

I stock curriculum materials from the following publishers whom I first saw exhibit them at homeschool conventions: Beautiful Feet Curriculum, Bluestocking, Common Sense Publishing, Design-a-Study, Power Glide Foreign Language Courses, and some others. My stock is limited to what's on hand and some of it is out of print now.

Some of my favorite children's books come from Charlesbridge, Crabtree, Dover, EDC (Usborne Books), Lerner Publications, Holiday House, and most of the large publishers like HarperCollins and Houghton Mifflin. I stock only those I would have wanted my own children to read.

Secular publishers are a mixed bag. Many of their older titles are wonderful. Many of their newer ones are horrible. HarperCollins sent me samples of books for young adults that were pure mind poison. Yet many of their picture books, including their nonfiction Let's Read and Find Out books, are excellent choices for children. Some of their I Can Read Series books like the Amelia Bedelia books have become classics. I carry only the best ones.
