We spend billions on people who never paid a cent into our tax coffers. Yet hospitals are pulling the plug, no let's call it what it is, they are murdering people who need advanced medical assistance to live because there is "no money" to take care of them. This is outrageous.
These decisions are not being left to the family or the patient even though the patient may have an advanced directive. I believe everyone has the right to decide what treatments they want. I believe they have the right to refuse treatment. I vehemently do NOT believe a "committee" has the right to decide against the wishes of a patient or the family regardless of the condition of the patient.
"Committee" decisions are a slippery slope. They set precedents that could lead to a court to allow "committees" to euthanize for other reasons. Can you think of any of these reasons? How about the burden on Social Security with aging boomers, what about Downs kids, MD, and a host of other "inconvenient" issues? I tell you, folks, if we allow people in hospitals to be killed, the next step is convenience kills.
