Habakkuk - The Condition of the USA is much like that of Judah:
2 How long, O LORD, will I call for help,
And You will not hear?
I cry out to You, “Violence!”
Yet You do not save.
3 Why do You make me see iniquity,
And cause me to look on wickedness?
Yes, destruction and violence are before me;
Strife exists and contention arises.
4 Therefore the law is ignored
And justice is never upheld.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
Therefore justice comes out perverted.
The prophet laments to the Lord in prayer. He calls on the Lord for help; to free him from the trouble God has shown him regarding Judah’s sin. Habbakuk has had this burden and called on the Lord for a long period of time, but until the verses that follow this passage, he had not heard from the Lord and questions God, “I call (on You) for help, and You will not hear?”
There is no doubt, Judah’s condition is grave. It has become wicked and evil because it had forsaken the Lord. The condition of the USA today is much like that of Judah. There is violence, iniquity, wickedness, destruction, strife, and contention. The law is ignored, even by our leaders. Justice is rarely ever upheld and is perverted. And the wicked are coming after the righteous.
The Lord seems to have removed His blessings from America, as our first president, George Washington warned on his day of inauguration:
"The propitious smiles of heaven cannot be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right that heaven itself has ordained.” – George Washington
It looks very much like, "the smiles of heaven” are being removed from this land, because the people have disregarded the Lord’s "the eternal rules of order and right."
Cry loudly, do not hold back; Raise your voice like a trumpet, and declare to My people their transgression and to the house of Jacob their sins. Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways, as a nation that has done righteousness and has not forsaken the ordinance of their God.
Isaiah 58:1-2a
We have forsaken the ordinance of God as a nation. We have turned our backs on God. Look at the godlessness and immorality of this county.
God’s strong desire is salvation and greater are His compassions than His judgments. God is patient and merciful, even in His warnings, even amidst His holy judgment. God is calling this nation back to Himself. What must we do to respond to the Lord’s call to return to Him? It starts with His people; His church; believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, because we have the greater responsibility. We must return to Christ. We must repent of our sins. We must repent first and be purely devoted to Him, then we must lead the nation in returning to God.
America's only hope is to repent and return to the Lord!
