What is a RINO? I know it stands for Republican In Name Only. It is not rhino. That is a large, ugly animal. This is an acronym. I have seen here on social media that there are a fair number of people who don’t even know that. In order to find out what a RINO is it is first necessary to know what a Republican is. I think that there are many people who call themselves Republicans who have no clue what that really is. I could probably name some “Republicans” who call for smaller government and less taxation, but who then approve the raising of the debt ceiling and more government programs. It seems to me the term RINO has become nothing more than a way to criticize anyone whose brand of “Republicanism” is different from their own. Ergo, as a Republican, I don’t agree with you therefore you must be a RINO. The term has become fairly meaningless. But I see it used a lot here on social media. Actually, I think the term ought to be CINO, Conservative In Name Only. But we have so many people who claim conservatism who couldn’t even tell you what a conservative is or why a conservative is different from a liberal. Maybe we could all use a little more education about government and politics. Here in Georgia, the Republican Party has completely controlled the state government for nearly all of the 21st century and yet all of our University System is still in the hands of the far Left. It makes me wonder if our state legislature and constitutional officers have even a clue about conservatism. We even had a supermajority for a while yet our brightest students are still being sent to Progressive Think Tanks. Perhaps we should strengthen our knowledge of what conservatism is and so strengthen our party. Rant complete!—I mean, unless I think of some more.
