More than anything, the constitution is a document to help guide the Government, or more specifically those elected to government. We are not ruled by any individual, whether it be a king, dictator, president, or governor but rather a body of elected officials.
The constitution allows us to have a representative body that governs according to the "law of the land" which the constitution represents.
Anytime an official moves outside of the constitution they essentially anoint themselves as almighty ruler. As a self-governing people its our duty to oppose any such threat to our American way of life.
