(JUNE 6 1944 ......The Allied Invasion of France) Got the opportunity to walk the beaches ( Ohama Beach ,or the bloody beach of Ohama) of Normandy,France some time ago. The price these brave men had to pay for the freedoms we enjoy..Some did not even make it off the Higgins boat or landing craft ..Imagine facing German machine guns with no cover, nowhere to hide from the bullets flying toward you and all around you and the water turning blood red....This was Omaha Beach..first wave...one German soldier (about 19 at the time ,But all the soldiers were young) machine gunner ..With emotional scars from ww2 as were many had ,upset in a interview that had nightmares his whole life about that day (and in his 80s at the time of interview) He estimated his machine gun position inflicted as many as 2000 casualties as he was being interviewed in the Normandy Cemetery ..He said because of him lots of these soldiers are here..and also when he thinks about it , makes him want to throw up..What a sad sad story.. photo of cemetery from above from National Geographic Magazine..
