I often believed the plagues in Revelation are God's expression of proving and judging mankind for trying to have health and longevity without having to recognize God as master of all that is or over his life. I can't even count the number of people I have known who exercised excessively and had controlling diets hoping they would never get some terrible desease who in the end died at a young age.
