Recently, my son and I were returning from a Father/Son Home School trip to Washington, DC and on our return trip back to Tennessee, we stopped in Lexington, VA. to visit the site of Conf. Gen. Thomas J "Stonewall" Jackson's home. Before departing, I happened to notice this quaint little restaurant, The Red Hen, across the street. Upon closer examination, I recognized the name, which, last year, was the scene of shameful, rude and unprofessional behavior and service from the proprietor of The Red Hen, Ms. Stephanie Wilkinson, when she and members of her staff gave the White House Press Secretary, Ms. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, not only "the boot" out of the restaurant, but followed Ms. Sanders and her family out and into the street organizing a protest accompanied by screaming and yelling. In my humble opinion, when a customer, regardless of their race, creed, color, religious, political or sexual orientation, enter a restaurant, they are first and foremost..A Customer.. who deserves to be greeted warmly and welcomed into the establishment and offered the finest service, food and refreshments unless the customer demonstrates otherwise. Sadly, it appears that Ms. Wilkinson's conduct of bad form, rudeness and unprofessional conduct, grievously impacted the Lexington Tourism Board financially as a result of Ms. Wilkinson's shameful behavior. To Ms. Sanders' credit, she demonstrated a mature attitude and behavior. She, in effect, displayed that she was...The Better Man; not too mention she's the daughter of a pastor. But, as in many of these public displays of childlike "meltdowns", someone needs to be the adult in those situations.
