How to overcome feelings of failure and worthlessness.
When I get to feeling low, thinking that I am such a failure, and wondering why God would ever be pleased with me, I just remind myself why He chose me in the first place.
1Co 1:26-31 NLT Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. (27) Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. (28) God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. (29) As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. (3 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. (31) Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.”
That’s grace my friend, totally undeserved and absolutely unearned. His grace always brings me joy and sets my heart on fire. Suddenly I have my strength renewed as I immerse myself in the ocean of His grace. Every time we humble ourselves before Him, He exalts us and lifts us up high. Remember that it is not the self-righteous man who is doing everything right that pleases God, but rather the most unrighteous of men who humble themselves before the God of grace.
Luk 18:9-14 NKJV Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: (1 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. (11) The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. (12) I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' (13) And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
