The sound of people crying form their apartments in locked-down Shanghai this week is a vivid reminder of what people in cities like Melbourne, New York, London and many other places throughout the so-called liberal West endured during 2020-21.
It is appropriate to now ask if it was all worth it.
And the leaders who imposed the lockdowns on us should never be allowed to forget it. They have more in common with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping than they do with traditional democratic politicians.
