Don't take my word for it! There would not have been a USA if the battle of Kings Mountain in 1780 was won by the British instead of the Patriots. At the national park's battle site, this monument to the brave Americans stands at Kings Mountain at the SC/NC state line. We were there yesterday camping and climbed the battle site...here at the top of the hill is a memorial.
