Something interesting and ironic that I learned about Vanity Fair, a fairly well-known publication that covers mostly entertainment as well as some politics which I had never known before:

For those of you who have ever taken time to read The Pilgrim’s Progress, a centuries old work of fiction written by a preacher called John Bunyan, or perchance have watched the latest version of the film based on Bunyan’s most well-known work:

Vanity Fair was also a town in the story that was constructed and placed by Satan (called Apollyon) on the path to the Celestial City (The Kingdom of God) in an attempt to turn those headed towards the city away from that Kingdom to the worldly and sinful pleasures of Vanity Fair.

It is also the place where a prominent character called Faithful Pathfinder was burned to death at the stake for his faith because he refused to give into to Vanity Fair’s many sinful temptations or be distracted by the worldly pleasures that it offered but instead kept his sites on the Celestial City.

Since Vanity Fair was an evil city featured in a work written centuries before the Vanity Fair publication even existed, one must wonder if there is somehow a connection.
