What next in Ohio? On Friday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine named Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance. DeWine's decision deflects a move by Donald Trump's DOGE co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy, who had made known his interest in the seat. DeWine is known to be more of an establishment Republican. In announcing his choice, DeWine said, "Serious times demand serious people," noting that his decision "took a while" since he "interviewed a large number of people." Meanwhile, Ramaswamy's camp responded to the news by stating, "Vivek's base plan remains the same: To get accomplishments at DOGE and then announce a run for governor shortly." Ramaswamy is eyeing the Ohio governor's mansion in 2026.
