My Bible Verse of The Day - 5-26-25
1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
While man focuses on outward appearances, God examines the heart—a truth often reiterated, and yet sadly overlooked.
If we were to look deep into the relationship between man and God, we would see that the single biggest factor affecting man’s part of that relationship is his or her heart.
In the verse above, there is a legitimate reason why God bypassed all of Jessie’s older sons and chose David; the heart with which David approached God.
And as we study the word of God, we will see this truth confirmed time and time again. It is undeniable.
Jesus confirmed this frequently in His teachings.
Here is just one example:
Matthew 15:18-20 (NKJV) 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
This is why it is so critical that we submit ourselves wholly to God, and that we spend time in His word daily.
It is time in His word that changes our heart as we take it in and allow the Holy Spirit to use it to convict us and sanctify us.
And if we were to dig deeply into God’s word, we would find thousands of references to the heart of man.
Just as moving water smooths a stone over time, so will the Word of God polish us and transform our hearts as we dedicate ourselves to studying and learning it with a desire for Him to shape and mold us.
There are no shortcuts. There are no secret formulas. There are no overnight methods for this transformation.
We must be willing to make the effort and be sincere in doing so. And as we are faithful on our part, God is faithful to give the increase.
