We had a controversy in my town over having a Nativity on our courthouse lawn. Some local churches and individuals purchased a beautiful life sized nativity to place on courthouse lawn. Permission was given by The City Administrator to have it placed there. I guess you can know what happened next. Someone complained about it being on government land and threatened a lawsuit. It was moved after a councilman said he reported it to The City Administrator. It was moved to private property just off our square near a busy intersection by a highway, which turned out to be a better place to witness for God anyway. People have been upset about the reason it was moved. A lot of Atheists rights versus Christian rights. Monday night saw a very heated City Council Meeting where a lady was escorted out by police because she was upset about the move and interrupted the meeting several times and called mayor and council members liars. I believe she was lied to, but personal attacks are not the way to accomplish things.She had some valid points. It has been a hot debate for about two weeks now. I think it is sad that a symbol of God’s love was so hated by so many that they don’t want it on public property. According to Federal law , if other secular decorations are included it is legal to be there. There were other decorations, a Santa house, trees, presents, banners. lighted decorations on lampposts.I think it was because of the size of nativity that they thought it stood out enough by itself that gave a lawsuit some merit. They caved under pressure and moved it. The decorating committee said no one approached them. If more decorations had been added it probably wouldn’t have needed to be moved. Many other surrounding communities have nativities in their courthouse lawns. As a Christian I really am tired of the people who are “offended “ by everything. I sometimes what to shout”Grow up”. I am especially tired of “the politically correct” movement. Anybody else feel this way? What are your opinions? Are Christians losing their rights in this country ?
