Why being a part of business networking groups made no sense to me?

Obviously I became so impressed that I joined the group in just 3 weeks of attending my first meeting as a guest.

Obviously I became so impressed that I joined the group in just 3 weeks of attending my first meeting as a guest.

What’s next? Well, I was asked to take an oath, blah blah was asked to generate business for others others were expected to do the same for me.
So, what do we expect then? The overflow of business? Well, nothing much of a difference. Everyone in my group asked for fees, charges, things they always wanted to get designed, developed etc but why not get started? because they found our services expensive.

Yeah! they can come to meetings in a posh property, pay an annual fee to be a part of this business group but they can’t afford website design expense. (BTW: we are not an expensive agency)

Sad! Actually, that’s what most of the businesses think. They obviously prefer freelancers and expect you to go around the town meet them generate business/references for them too.

Here’s my experience of 6 months with one of such networking groups:|

They make you feel terrible for wearing casual clothes. My point: Why is clothing? It’s my work that should do the talking, really!

Generate References: Why? If I have a reference, I will share. Why so much of fuss? When do I work if I keep generating reference?

Do not expect real connects or lifelong friends: yeah! please don’t. People out there are very professional. They will not look back at you after you leave. So, it’s all professional.

What I did like about these groups?

Networking: You get a chance to meet people from different professions, which is great!

Early Morning Kick: What is better than getting up early starting your day early?

So, to sum it up, I give a big thumbs down to such groups/ networks etc.
– They are a complete waste of money, efforts, energy time.

If you have had some major success, Leave a comment below as its always good to know what I possibly missed and how I could have benefitted.
