Blackwing Lair (BWL) is the second major raid in World of Warcraft Classic, situated deep within Blackrock Spire. It serves as the only major raid in Phase 3, offering players a chance to acquire Tier 2 set items, powerful weapons, and other top-tier gear. Within the lair, players will face Nefarian and his brood, battling through eight boss encounters.

Accessing Blackwing Lair

There are two methods to enter Blackwing Lair:

• Attunement: Completing the attunement quest provides quick access to the raid, bypassing the need to travel through Upper Blackrock Spire.
• Traditional Route: Players can fight their way through Upper Blackrock Spire to reach the raid entrance.

Blackwing Lair Attunement

To begin the attunement quest, players must find the Scarshield Quartermaster in the hall to the right of the Lower Blackrock Spire entrance. Killing the Scarshield Quartermaster loots Blackhand's Command, which starts the quest, Blackhand's Command. The quest requires players to clear Upper Blackrock Spire to reach the Orb of Ascension behind General Drakkisath. After touching the Orb of Ascension and completing the quest, players can enter Blackwing Lair by interacting with the Orb of Ascension at the end of the hallway outside the Lower Blackrock Spire entrance.

Navigating Blackrock Mountain

Blackwing Lair is in Blackrock Mountain.

• Alliance
  • Searing Gorge: Fly to Thorium Point, enter the Molten Span, climb the chain to the broken stone ledge, and jump to the balcony below to enter Blackrock Spire. If attuned, use the orb to get to Blackwing Lair.
  • Burning Steppes: Fly to Morgan’s Vigil and follow the same route as from Searing Gorge.
• Horde
  • Searing Gorge: Fly to Kargath and head to Badlands, then fly to Thorium Point and follow the path.
  • Burning Steppes: Fly to Flame Crest and take the same route up the chain.

Season of Discovery Changes

In the Season of Discovery, Blackwing Lair has undergone several changes:

• Trials of the Dragonflights: Players can speak with Victor Nefriendius at the entrance to enable additional trials inspired by the dragonflights. Completing the raid with these trials active grants additional rewards upon Nefarian's defeat. Players can disable trials at any time, but they cannot be added after the raid has been saved. To be eligible for the extra rewards, the entire raid must be completed with the trials active, with a maximum of three different trials counting towards additional rewards. Additionally, a weekly bonus exists for having a specific trial in place, hinted at near Victor Nefriendius.
