Color masterbatch is a new type of colourant for polymer materials, also known as pigment preparation. It consists of three basic elements: the pigment or dye, the carrier and the additive. To put it simply, a color masterbatch is an aggregate made by evenly loading an extraordinary amount of pigment or dye into a resin.
The basic components of color masterbatch
1.Pigments or dyes
Organic pigments and inorganic pigments. Commonly used organic pigments are: phthalocyanine red, phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green
Sun-resistant red, macromolecular red, macromolecular yellow, permanent yellow, permanent purple, azo red, etc. Commonly used inorganic pigments are: cadmium red
Cadmium yellow, titanium dioxide, carbon black, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, etc.
2.Carrier:
The carrier is the matrix of the masterbatch. The carrier is the matrix of the colour masterbatch. The carrier is generally chosen from the same resin as the product resin.
The compatibility of the carrier is the best, but the fluidity of the carrier should also be considered.
3.Dispersant:
The dispersant should have a lower melting point than the resin, good compatibility with the resin and good affinity with the pigment. The most commonly used dispersants are polyethylene low molecular wax and stearate.
4.Additives:
Such as flame retardant, brightening, antibacterial, antistatic, antioxidant, etc. Unless requested by the customer, in general the above-mentioned additives are not included in the masterbatch.
Unless requested by the customer, the masterbatch does not contain these additives.
Types Of Color Materbatch
Classification of color color masterbatch
Classification by carrier: PE color masterbatch, PP color masterbatch, ABS color masterbatch, PVC color masterbatch, EVA color masterbatch, etc.
Classification by application: e.g. injection color color masterbatch, blow moulding color color masterbatch, spinning color color masterbatch, etc.
Application Of Color Masterbatch
Each variety can be divided into different grades, such as:
- Advanced injection color color masterbatch: used for cosmetic packaging boxes, toys, electrical appliance shells and other advanced products.
- Ordinary injection color color masterbatch: used for general daily-use plastic products, industrial containers, etc.
3.Advanced blown film color masterbatch: used for blow moulding and colouring of ultra-thin products.
- Ordinary blown film color color masterbatch: used for the blown colouring of general packaging bags and woven bags.
- Spinning color masterbatch: used for textile fiber spinning coloring, with fine pigment particles, high concentration, strong coloring power, good heat and light resistance.
- Low-grade color color masterbatch: used for manufacturing low-grade products with low requirements on colour quality, such as bins and low-grade containers, etc.
- Special color masterbatch: it is a color masterbatchmade by using the same plastic as the carrier according to the plastic species specified by the user for the products. For example, PP color masterbatchand ABS color masterbatch use PP and ABS as carriers respectively. The heat resistance of the color masterbatch is generally compatible with the plastic used for the product and can be used at normal temperatures. However, the following conditions may cause different degrees of discolouration: firstly, the temperature is outside the normal range, and secondly, the downtime is too long.
- Universal colour color masterbatch: a certain resin (often PE with a low melting point) is also used as a carrier, but it can be used for colouring other resins than its carrier resin.
