Questions about History

An exploration of some historical facts often overlooked for some reason.

I once read an article discussing how Benjamin Franklin had written about the real reasons for the Revolutionary War. His take was that it was about the money system imposed on the Colonies by the king of England and not the taxes that were imposed. We all remember being taught in school that it was unfair taxes and taxes without representation. I am sure that the taxes were unpopular with the colonists as evidenced by the Boston Tea Party. The Colonies were suffering economically from a restriction of the money supply created by the English money system. Prior to that the Colonies were prosperous due to the use of a money system that they created and managed.

That brings us to the subject of central banking and how that is often used to create boom and bust cycles. Little wonder that this subject is not stressed in our education system. The current Federal Reserve that prints our money or notes was established in 1913. A book called "The Creature from Jekyll Island" goes into the shennanigans around it's establishment with details about moneyed elites and corrupt politicians. Some even say that the sinking of the Titanic played a role and may not have been an accident. In 1933 the U.S. experienced the Great Depression where it is estimated that millions of people died from starvation in our country. Al Capone funded a soup kitchen during the Great Depression. Bonnie and Clyde were gangster heroes to the public. Many farmers who had owned their farms for generations lost them due to foreclosure. Many analysts today attribute the cause and severity to actions by the Federal Reserve and the president at the time Roosevelt. The question to ask is who benefitted from these policies. Always follow the money.

Andrew Jackson was in full out war with them. After several assassination attempts on him, I haven't heard about until 1913. Coolidge got whacked for something, he might have known about money, I forget.
