You will learn how to bypass the blocking of sites using VPN services, the Tor browser and how to work on the Internet safely and anonymously.
Now on the Internet there is a geographical blocking of sites. You have already noticed that you do not open some sites (for example, sites with movies, Internet projects), others can open these same sites - the reason is blocking by your provider. Try to open the site with a VPN.
VPN will help you without special knowledge:
- open blocked sites that do not open due to geographical blocking
- change the geographical location – your computer on the Internet "magically" moves to another country
- work anonymously on the Internet without identifying your computer
- strengthen security when browsing any sites - protection against viruses
1. What is a VPN service
The VPN service encrypts your internet and passes through its server in another country. Therefore, the user's computer "magically" moves to the country where the VPN server is located and his IP address and geographical location change. From another country, you can easily access sites that are blocked in your region.
VPN service not only changes the location of your computer to another country, but enhances the security and anonymity of working on the Internet because the entire Internet is filtered and checked on the VPN server.
There are several options for a VPN service
- Install a special program on your computer.
The software switches the entire internet on the computer through its server. With VPN enabled, all browsers and programs using the Internet will work through the VPN server. In this option, extensions in browsers are not needed.
The advantage of this method is a stronger bypass of blocking the opening of sites.
- Install the browser extension.
You can install the VPN extension in your browser. The service will only work for sites opened in this browser.
The advantage of this method is that you can work in different browsers simultaneously with the VPN enabled and disabled. The downside is in the weaker bypass of locks.
2. Free VPN Services
There is a large selection of VPN services on the Internet. I chose the most popular ones that have a free plan: Browsec, Touch VPN, Windscribe, ProtonVPN.
Browsec, Touch VPN, Proton VPN have a free plan with unlimited internet for both computer and phone.
Only Windscribe has a limit on the amount of Internet 10GB but for many this is enough, the service is of high quality and offers very favorable tariffs, so I included this VPN in this list.
3. VPN extensions for browsers
Browsec, Touch VPN, Windscribe offer the installation of the extension in the browser. For example, the Browsec extension can be installed in popular browsers Google, Firefox, Opera, Edge. Let us consider in more detail how to install and work with the Browsec extension, with other extensions everything is the same.
4. VPN for Windows and MacOS
All of the above listed extensions offer installation for Windows and MasOs. WindScribe is a very good option if 10 GB of free internet through a VPN is enough for you or you want a good paid service with high speeds and low tariffs.
I use ProtonVPN for Windows because it has a free plan with unlimited internet traffic and I like the way it works. ProtonVPN is easy to work with and I'll tell you more.
On the ProtonVPN website, click Get ProtonVPN or download below from this site
In the FREE column, click Get Free. Next, register your new account and log in to the ProtonVPN website. After logging in, you can download the program in the Downloads - ProtonVPN Clients section.
Install ProtonVPN on your computer. The first time you launch the app, you'll be asked to sign in with the account you created.
Enabling the VPN is easy – in the Proton VPN window, click Quick Connection and the service will automatically select the most free server.
In the taskbar (where clock, battery, volume) there will be a Proton VPN icon. The color of the icon will show VPN enabled (green) or off (gray). If you right-click on the icon, you can turn the VPN off or on.
Note:
A VPN installed on a computer as a separate program is better at bypassing site blocking, but at the same time VPN is enabled for all browsers at the same time. Extensions in browsers are not needed.
5. Tor browser for anonymous networking
This browser works according to its own technology. Unlike VPN, it redirects connections to the proxy server system, and the VPN connection encrypts data through the VPN server.
With the Tor browser, you can anonymously open blocked or censored sites, send mail, and conduct correspondence. Using this web browser allows you to hide your location, IP address and other identification data.
Tor works like a regular browser and no special knowledge is needed.
Installing the TOR Browser
Open the Settings site , click on the Tor button - the official website of the browser will open.
Run the downloaded file to install. Installation is clear and simple. Then start the browser with a shortcut on the desktop and open the sites as in a regular browser.
When you turn on the browser for the first time, check the Box Always connect automatically - connect automatically. Click Connect - you need to wait for Tor to connect to the network. Once connected, you can work as in a regular browser, but already privately through the Tor network.
