The Elgin CH Church began as a storefront building on Main Street in Elgin, SC in late 1990. During this time, Wesley Luke began to build the church-building that exists today. He started the construction with very little money and did most of the work himself. Originally only the sanctuary of the church was built (the Fellowship Hall and Baptistery were added after Wesley and Judith Luke were wed in 1996)
During the beginning stages of the construction, Pastor Luke ran out of money to buy materials. At that point, the man pulled up in an old truck. He asked Pastor Luke what he was building, Pastor Luke told him his plans for a Holiness Church, but that he would have to pause to raise more money to finish the project. The man went to his old Dachsund truck, pulled out some money, and handed it to Pastor Luke. Wesley thanked him and told the kind man to come to see him when the church is finished, He said, “Oh, I'll be seeing you. I'll be back,” but Wesley has never seen him or the truck again. There were numerous blessings like this while the church was being built; to God be the glory.
