Micro: Pete Buttigieg is one of those Robert-Moses-style pols who invokes “data” to justify policies that violate personal rights, and follow objectively bad econ development principles (ironically, when Buzzfeed asked his administration for data, they couldn’t produce).
Macro: officials in declining cities should question the wisdom of mass vacant home demolition. There’s other ways they can spur restoration of these homes – LVT, tax rebates, etc. But by just mowing houses down, they permanently destroy this historic stock. And it’s unclear what, if anything, will replace it.
