Getting the Pokemon Scarlet will bring you Koraidon, the red feather-covered dragon, while Violet will find you hanging out with a blue-purple digital dragon with an LED screen called Miraidon. Their type hasn't been revealed, but for me the biggest choice comes down to the mount itself. While they perform the same, Koraidon runs on all fours despite what looks like a wheel. There are also some regular Pokemon that are version exclusive, which means that if you want to "catch them all", you'll need to trade with someone so it doesn't hurt to play with someone else. For example, both of my kids are dyeing violet, which is the main reason I go through scarlet in the first place. This is exclusive to all the releases we know of so far.

Also, the banner and school colors will change based on your version of the game. Probably to give your characters some kind of unique connection so you know what version they're playing in multiplayer.

Several other new Pokemon have also been speculated to be game-specific. Rumor has it that the new cute (and morbid) ghost-type puppy dubbed Greavard has both evolved as well as the dark-type dog that appears in the opposite game.
Savannah resident Girafarig (and its new evolution, Farigiraf) and Donphan (rumored to have a new form) are both speculated to be edition exclusives.
