WoW Classic aims WoTLK Classic Gold to be an authentic replica of the original Vanilla World of Warcraft , as of the 1.12 patch. The game has been brought to the state it is in at the time of its release on August 22. 2006. just before that Burning Crusade expansion.

The Classic format offers classic raids such as Molten Core and Onyxia, the classic talent structure, and the world as it stood at the time, during the game's lifespan. It features the original game's characters, combat techniques, and skills trees. That also means that the game will not include some useful features like a raid locater. The studio has even released a "Not a Bug" list to prove that certain system that was flagged as a bug by players were actually working exactly as they were supposed to.

However, the game isn't completely unaltered. Blizzard wanted the game to look like the original WoW however, it also made small quality of life improvements.

"Anything which could buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold impact gameplay will ensure it's something that real," WoW Classic lead engineer Brian Birmingham told P2Pah. "Where we believe quality-of-life enhancements are acceptable are things liketabbing to finish a name in in-game mail. This isn't a fundamental element of leveling, or searching, and trying discover all the possibilities."
