Despite their current struggle, Chelsea have still shown that they're keen to plan for the future by continuing their recent trend of signing younger talents on long contracts. Teenage sensation Kendry Paez from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle has agreed a move with them for an estimated fee that could reach PS20m including add-ons.

Paez, 16, has quickly emerged as one of South America's most exciting youngsters, earning comparisons with Lionel Messi for his fearless dribbling and vision in unlocking defences with his passes. At 15 years old - becoming both youngest debutant and youngest goalscorer at Independiente earlier this year. Additionally he represented Ecuador at both Under-17 and Under-20 levels and helped them advance to semi-finals at this summer's Under-20 World Cup.

Paez scored on his senior debut and will continue playing for Independiente as he seeks to advance both at club and international levels. Already an established member of Ecuadorian national team, he will look to make further impressions at Copa Libertadores tournament that begins soon.

As an under-17 South American Championships participant for his country, he netted four goals, demonstrating the midfielder's immense scoring potential and potential goal contributions at Chelsea who haven't had an experienced goalscorer for some time now.

Chelsea are currently fighting to stay afloat in the Premier League, and interim boss Bruno Saltor is trying his hardest to turn things around at Stamford Bridge. Although things don't look promising right now, Chelsea billionaire owner Todd Boehly continues to show faith in young players under Mauricio Pochettino's guidance in west London. With their more streamlined squad featuring plenty of young talent available again, Chelsea are starting to look like formidable force again; signing Ecuadorian midfielder Paez was an excellent addition.
