Southwest allows two checked pieces of baggage per ticketed Customer. Size and weight limitations apply. Info about Southwest Baggage Allowance. However, do not include self-defense spray on your carry-on or checked baggage.

Excess Baggage

Baggage that exceeds the above baggage allowances and does not weigh more than 62 inches (length + width + height) and 50 pounds. Anything less than that will incur a fee of $75.00 per one-way trip. Any overweight or oversized excess baggage will be subject to the applicable overweight or overage charges in addition to the excess baggage surcharge.  

Weight and Size Allowances

Southwest Airlines will accept the first two checked bags free of charge as long as the baggage does not exceed 50 pounds and 62 inches (length + width + height).

 Overweight items between 51 lbs. and 100 lbs. and oversized items over 62 inches and up to 80 inches will be accepted for a fee of $75.00 per item each way. Any overweight or oversized excess baggage will be subject to the applicable overweight or overage charges in addition to the excess baggage surcharge.

 Liability

Southwest's liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage is limited to US$3,500 per paying customer.

Domestic Flights: Southwest's liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage is limited to US$3,500 per paying customer.

International Itineraries: Southwest Airlines' liability for destruction, loss, damage or delay of baggage, whether checked or unchecked, is subject to 1,131 Special Drawing Rights (currently is valued at $1685.19, but is limited to 2019). Either the Montreal Convention or the Warsaw Convention, whichever applies.

 Lithium Batteries, Electronic Cigarettes and Lighters Note:

 Passengers may travel with a maximum of 20 spare batteries at one time. This includes portable and external chargers for mobile phones, tablets and laptops. Portable chargers and spare batteries must be placed in carry-on baggage or carried on board.

E-cigarettes are designed to produce heat and must be carried in a carrying case or carried on board. Please Note: E-cigarettes are not permitted on aircraft.

passengers are also permitted to travel with a lighter, which must be in hand luggage or in the cabin. Complaints Damaged or missing baggage must be reported directly by him within 4 hours of his arrival at his destination.

Late Check-In

 When checking in your baggage, please allow enough time for it to be stored on board. Baggage checked at the curbside or ticket counter within 45 minutes of the scheduled departure time will be tagged with a late check-in tag.

Every effort is made to recover your checked baggage that is delayed on your flight, but if your baggage does not reach its destination, Southwest will not charge any additional shipping charges to deliver your baggage. Not accepted.
