 I knew that that the firmament, the Heavens separated the waters, but I never thought of it as solid before.  I know it makes sense, but we look up at the heavens and see empty space that we can pass through and yet it is solid enough to contain the waters. There isn't a vault within the heavens that contains the water it is the heavens themselves that contain the water.  Even Wikipedia describes it as a structure above the Earth's Atmosphere conceived as a vast solid dome.

Am I the only one who never considered this before? ?
