A new time has been set for the championship match between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. The fight will take place on May 18, 2024, according to the promotional organization Queensberry Promotions.

The venue of the fight remains unchanged - it will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Usyk and Fury will compete for the title of absolute champion - the first in the heavyweight division since 1999. The Usyk-Fury fight for the four major heavyweight titles had been planned since 2022. At the beginning of last year, the parties failed to agree on the terms of the meeting, but eventually reached an agreement and signed separate contracts in September.

The championship match was originally scheduled for December. Then it was postponed after Fury's difficult victory over Francis Ngannou in late October and was supposed to take place on February 17. However, the Briton received a cut above his eye during training and said he would not be able to box.

Usyk's representatives, according to media reports, tried to find a new opponent for Oleksandr on February 17. In particular, the mandatory IBF contender, undefeated Filip Hrgovic, declared his readiness to fight the Ukrainian. However, in the end, the organizers postponed the entire boxing night on February 17 for three months. Usyk's last fight is his victory in August 2023 over mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian knocked out his opponent in the ninth round - his fifth victory in the heavyweight division and the 21st in a row in his professional career.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury: what is known? Usyk (21-0-0, 14 KOs) and Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) remain undefeated in the professional ring. The Briton has only once drawn a fight - in December 2018, when the American Deontay Wilder retained the WBC belt. The fight between Usyk and Fury will determine the first absolute world champion in heavyweight in the era of four major organizations. The winner of this fight will become the first absolute world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Usyk and Fury signed separate contracts for the fight, for which each of the boxers will receive different fees. After the announcement of the championship fight between Usyk and Fury, the parties agreed on a rematch, where the IBF belt is not likely to be played. Both boxers will be able to activate the option for a return fight. The winner of the Usyk-Fury fight will receive a special belt of the absolute world champion.
