Faith in Every Step: An Ohio Farmboy's Journey

When you meet obstacles in life, you need to have faith in yourself to overcome them. Let’s discuss.

Humans are very literal and pessimistic creatures. We tend to believe and perceive situations at face value and act accordingly. And when circumstances don't seem to pan out as planned, our intuitions fail, life beats us to the ground, and we lose hope.

Now, imagine a man trapped inside a cave with nothing but a pick-axe and the gaping abyss. He has two choices in this situation. Either he succumbs to the darkness and gives up, or he picks up the tool and begins to chip away at the rock until he sees freedom seep through. So he chooses the latter, like most would, relying on his strength and belief in himself. Little by little, he reaches closer to the light on the other side, but, to him, this is not the case. All he sees is that his efforts are going to be wasted as the blackness persists. So, he gives up, letting his circumstances win, and chooses to rot away in the cave.

If only he'd know that he's only two chips away from the other side.

When life challenges us with situations beyond our control, faith provides us with a bridge to the other side. It teaches us never to give up, no matter what.

In the book, The Life and Times of an Ohio Farmboy, author David Haugh takes the reader on an incredible journey through a sequence of events with a profound sense of fulfilment. In his book, David peels away the layers of the different life stages, including delicate revelations, to build a massive, intertwining life structure.

From his humble beginnings on a farm in Ohio to a large University, army, and then Vietnam, David's life was a series of events that required him to rely on faith – in himself and the divine.

It is an inspirational read encouraging readers to look at their lives as spiritual journeys. And just like any journey, the path won't always be smooth. Sometimes, you will meet traffic, testing your patience; other times, rain will force you to tread with caution, and, often, you will come across those blissful moments when you will be riding full speed toward your destination. But with these varying stipulations, there should be one persisting factor that can help you through anything and everything in life: belief.

David delves deeper into his life in the book as he talks about losing his fellow soldiers in the jungles of Vietnam, being unable to hold his newborn son, marrying his wife, Sherry, starting his own business, travelling Europe, and watching his granddaughters grow up.

Use David's life as an example, using belief in oneself as a stepping stone to get further in life. Pursue the unknown with bravery, and you will win the war of life.
