Baggage Allowance in Southwest Airlines for Checked Items

Southwest Airlines is one of the few airlines that offer complimentary bag checks to all customers. Southwest Airlines’ baggage fees allow passengers to check up to two bags weighing no over than 50 pounds. The bags' total dimensions, involving length, breadth, and height, cannot surpass 62 inches.

However, according to the baggage allowance laws of this airline, when you carry three or more Southwest checked bags like handbags, you may be required to pay additional costs.

Carry-on Policy for Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines’ baggage rules enable you to bring your personal goods for free. A duffel bag, a zip lock baggie, or a small suitcase are common carry-on options. To be approved by the baggage allowance in Southwest Airlines, these bags must be smaller than 10 x 16 x 24 inches in size and have wheels and handles.

When the Southwest Airlines carry-on size dimensions are smaller than 18.5 x 8.5 x 13.5 inches, your luggage is categorized as a personal item. Personal items that fit under these size restrictions include handbags, bags, and laptop suitcases.

Southwest is a great airline for travelers without status. At least they were before mandating vaccines. Anyone traveling for business or vacation that needs to take more than their allowance probably needs to rethink their travel needs unless they have some specific need for all of the extra stuff such as folks that must take equipment or gear for their trip but that's not the typical profile for most and folks doing this regularly aren't usually flying on this airline.
