What Is the Purpose of an AOM Driver?

An AOM driver's primary function is to generate the high-frequency electrical signals necessary to drive the piezoelectric transducer within an acousto-optic modulator (AOM). This transducer converts the electrical signal into mechanical vibrations, which in turn produce acoustic waves that interact with the light beam passing through the AOM.

By controlling the frequency and amplitude of these electrical signals, the AOM driver can manipulate the properties of the light beam, such as its intensity, frequency, or direction. This modulation is achieved through the acousto-optic effect, where the interaction between the light beam and the acoustic waves causes the refractive index of the AOM's crystal material to vary.
