Racism has been an enduring problem in the history of the United States. Issues related to race are front and center in the news today. The saddest thing is that despite the efforts that the incumbent government is putting forth in relation to what the previous governments did to avert the menace, racism is hitherto a major challenge among the diverse communities of the US. The main cause of this vice has been the stereotypical attitude that white supremacists have towards the minority races that have lived in the US since time immemorial. Racism has been very conspicuous in all sectors ranging from public, private, religious to even non-governmental organizations. The vice has notably resulted in a plethora of negative effects on the social, economic and political organization of the country in general. Legislation alone cannot deter acts of racism in the society; other complementary measures are necessary to promote cohesion and integration in the society.
It is evident that the federal government of the United States is putting in place legal and political measures to curb the incessant racial discrimination. There have been a series of acts passed by the parliament since Declaration of Independence was signed as the concerted efforts to uproot racism. However, till today, there has not been any significant progress towards the lasting solution to the problem. The tougher the government acts on the challenge, the more it seems to take even a different dimension. Other agencies, such as the religious groups as well as the non-governmental organizations, seem to have stopped trying to fight against racism.
Although the situation still portrays an exercise in futility on the side of the government, my still believe that the government will manage to absolute eradicate racism. This is because it is its constitutional responsibility to cultivate unity among all the citizens irrespective of their racial affiliation. In case the government fails completely to bear this responsibility, then most of its programs risk being negatively influenced by the same consequences of racism. Eventually, the government’s strategic plans will be thwarted, and that is detrimental to the development agenda. The only possible remedy is to make an effective plan that would allow absolute eradicating the vice in all the sectors. The federal government, through the education department, can also help, incorporating in the curriculum of educational institutions at all the levels the courses and programs on social cohesion and national integration. This will be a gradual but a sure method of fighting the prejudice of one generation against another. That should however be implemented alongside other strategies such public sensitization through media, political and religious gatherings among other approaches.
Failure to put necessary mechanisms for the lasting solution to the problem of racism will be tantamount to paving the way for more radical measures, such as protests or work stoppages, which will be initiated by the general public as an affirmative action aimed at dealing with race-based discrimination. Although such approaches have ever worked in the past, especially during the 1960s’ civil rights activism, the approach is not sufficiently reliable to generate a lasting and credible solution to the challenge. It portrays the incapability of governments to uproot the wrong practice among the communities of different races. Besides, such an approach can easily result in fatalities due to the violence or unnecessary commotions of the civilian and the government’s security agencies.
In this college application essay conclusion, racial discrimination is still a chronic challenge among various races that coexist in the US. There are possible approaches towards finding the lasting solution to the problem. However, the government is the only agency with the prerogative to instigate appropriate measures to rid the country of this menace. The responsibility should not be transferred to more radical groups because that will be equivalent to anarchy and failure of the government to provide direction.
