'Continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You'

“Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.” Psalm 36:10

David, the sweet psalmist of Israel, prays that God would continue to show lovingkindness to His people — to those who look to Him in faith for mercy — and that He would count them righteous through faith in their Savior, Jesus Christ.

Do not cast me away on account of my sins, O God, but have mercy upon me, forgive my sins, and count me righteous through faith in Jesus, the promised Messiah and Savior of Your people. Amen.

Seeking shelter in the shadow of Your wings

“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.” Psalm 36:7

Jesus Christ made atonement for the sins of all when He suffered and died on the cross and then rose again. Therefore, God shows lovingkindness, mercy, and forgiveness to all who look to Him in faith and take shelter under the wings of His grace for Jesus’ sake.

I deserve Your wrath and punishment, O God, but I look to You for mercy and take refuge in Your lovingkindness for the sake of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for me on the cross. Amen.

'Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens'

“Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast.” Psalm 36:5-6

Though many fail to see and acknowledge it, God’s mercy and His faithfulness are so great and immeasurable that they reach up into heaven to the clouds. His righteousness is so great it is like the high mountains, and His judgments are like the great deep. He is the one who creates and preserves all life. Our lives in this world and our eternal salvation depend entirely on Him!

Have mercy on me, O God. Pardon my sin and grant me a place in Your everlasting kingdom for Jesus’ sake. Amen

A woman who fears the LORD is praiseworthy

“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

When choosing a wife, a wise man will look beyond outward charm and beauty to the heart and seek a woman who respects and honors the LORD God and His Word – to a woman who acknowledges her sins, places her faith in Christ Jesus, and seeks to live for Him in accord with His Word.

O LORD, grant to all of us the wisdom to fear and honor Your name and to walk in accord with Your Word rather than according to the views of this world. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

'Do not speak in the ears of a fool'

“Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.” Proverbs 23:9

While we are to call upon all to repent of their sinful ways and believe the gospel of forgiveness and life through faith in Jesus Christ, it is of little use trying to convince a person who continually despises and rejects the wisdom of our words. To waste time arguing with a fool can prove foolish on our part (cf. Prov. 26:4).

Grant that we faithfully bear witness to the truth revealed in Your Word, O Lord, but keep us from the folly of arguing with fools who despise the wisdom of Your Word. Amen.
