I wanted to share my answer to someone's question: "what qualifies an American?"
answer:
"What makes me an American is my sworn loyalty to the Constitution of the US (for without the ideals expressed within it, there can be no America worth being part of).
It's not a feeling, or the color of my skin, or the city I live in or even the size of the flag outside my house. All feelings are welcome. All colors are welcome. All religions are welcome. All ethnicities are welcome. As long as you agree to and uphold our Constitution, you can be a citizen.
Loyalty to uphold the US Constitution is what makes me American; and it is the measuring rod I use to determine when something or someone is un-American."
