Around 750 members of Tigray’s Maryam Tsiyon Church died fighting against Ethiopian federal troops joined by the Amhara militia in December.
Many Ethiopian Christians believe the Ark of the Covenant is housed at the Maryam Tsiyon Church, which is likely why so many would put their lives on the line to protect it.
