Arkansas lawmakers have pushed back against federal gun laws by passing a bill aimed to invalidate new federal gun restrictions.

In a 79-to-20 vote Wednesday, the state House passed the bill moments after it was passed in the state Senate. The legislation nullifies any federal gun restriction enacted on or after January 1 of 2021.

State Rep. Jeff Wardlaw (R), the bill’s sponsor, said there would be consequences for law enforcement or officials who violate the law subject to losing certification. This comes in an effort to protect Arkansans’ Second Amendment rights.

“My constituents came to me early on after the November election and they expressed a lot of fear, a lot of fear off the campaign material the Biden administration put out,”Wardlaw stated. “That they were going to go after confiscating rifles taxes, putting taxes on ammunition, putting taxes on magazines.”
