A scientist has admitted the scientific community last year refused to espouse the idea that coronavirus originated in a lab in Wuhan due to its political association with President Donald Trump and so-called “racists.” In an interview with NBC News, postdoctoral researcher at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard Alina Chan acknowledged there was political reluctance in the scientific community to sign on to the lab leak theory. “At the time, it was scarier to be associated with Trump and to become a tool for racists, so people didn’t want to publicly call for an investigation into lab origins,” Chan, who is now calling for an investigation into whether Covid was leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China, told NBC.
