The Congressional race in my home Congressional District which is the 3rd District of Washington State, has a primary that is getting quite a bit of attention. Incumbent Republican Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler, who voted for the second impeachment of President Trump is getting opposed by four Republicans, two of whom are getting a significant number of support. Those two are retired Army Special Forces soldier Joe Kent and Pastor, Author Heidi St. John. Kent is endorsed by President Trump and by three county Republican Party organizations in the 3rd District. Heidi St. John had pledged to withdraw from the race if Trump endorsed someone else, but backed off the pledge claiming she didn't know that "He is an opportunist who has a history of bending the truth and members of his campaign have launched a democrat-style, dirty campaign against me, full of fake news and outright lies. People govern how they campaign. Joe is not the person I want representing me, my children, my grandchildren or this district, and so, I am going to stay in the race." The Kent supporters obviously don't believe in what Heidi St. John said about Kent. I did receive a flyer in the mail attacking Kent claiming he was a registered Democrat in Portland, Oregon for ten years among many other charges. Kent did admit to voting for Bernie Sanders in the Oregon Democratic Primary in 2020, but only as a tactical vote because Bernie was perceived to be the weaker candidate if he would have become the nominee against Trump. After Kent moved to Washington state in 2020 after the Oregon Primary, Kent said he voted for Trump in the general election.
I had supported Jaime Herrera Beutler in the past, and while she has had some good votes such as her opposition to the terrible (In)Equality Act, she had a number of bad votes for leftist legislation including a vote to end Trump's National Emergency over the state border wall.
The leading Democrat candidate running for the seat is auto repair shop owner Marie Gluesenkamp Perez who is a supporter of legalized unborn baby killing if the mother consents.
With the controversial top two primary in Washington state what could happen is that there could be such a bad vote split between Kent, St. John, and Vicki Kraft (another conservative candidate) is that Herrera Beutler could make it to the top two against Perez even if the combined vote of the more conservative candidates is much more than the vote for Herrera Beutler. So we have to try to near unite with whoever is the strongest conservative against JHB and if Joe Kent makes it to the top two and wins the seat, we hope he votes conservatively.
